From X-Men to Eternals: A Breakdown of Marvel’s 2022 Slate

Marvel Studios has always been known for their ability to churn out blockbuster hits with great regularity. However, their 2022 slate seems to be on another level altogether. With four highly anticipated films in the pipeline, they are set to deliver one of their most exciting years yet. Here is a breakdown of Marvel’s 2022 slate.

#1 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Release date: March 25, 2022

The sequel to Doctor Strange (2016), this film promises to be even more mind-bending than its predecessor. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Master of the Mystic Arts, Doctor Stephen Strange, and is joined by Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, who will be playing a key role in the story. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, who has a proven track record with superhero films, having directed the original Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire.

#2 Thor: Love and Thunder

Release date: May 6, 2022

The fourth film in the Thor franchise sees the return of Taika Waititi as director, who previously helmed Thor: Ragnarok (2017). Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman return as Thor, Valkyrie, and Jane Foster, respectively. This time around, Jane Foster will be wielding Mjolnir and becoming the Mighty Thor herself. The film also stars Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher.

#3 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Release date: July 8, 2022

This is easily one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, and understandably so. Black Panther (2018) was a cultural phenomenon and a critical and box-office success. However, the tragic passing of lead actor Chadwick Boseman last year has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the sequel. Ryan Coogler, who directed the first film, returns to direct Wakanda Forever, which promises to honor Boseman’s legacy and expand the world of Wakanda.

#4 The Eternals

Release date: November 4, 2022

The Eternals marks the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao, who has previously directed films like Nomadland (2020) and The Rider (2017). The all-star cast includes Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie, and Salma Hayek. The Eternals are a group of immortal beings who have been living on Earth for centuries, but have kept a low profile until now. This film promises to be a departure from the typical superhero fare, focusing on the philosophical questions raised by immortality.

Marvel’s 2022 slate is a diverse and exciting lineup that promises to deliver something for everyone. From mind-bending multiverses to epic cosmic adventures and powerful cultural explorations, these films are sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
